Joie de Vivre’s Hotel Carlton – San Francisco’s First LEED-EB
O&M Gold Certified Eco Hotel!

A few weeks
ago, we told you how
San Francisco’s
Good Hotel,
which is part of the
Joie de Vivre
collection, decorated its property using repurposed and recycled
materials.
Well, Joie de
Vivre has caught our attention again. Another one of its
stellar properties,
Hotel Carlton,
has just become San Francisco’s first LEED-EB O&M Gold Certified
hotel, and the first in the country to earn certification under
the US Green Building Council’s newly-revamped rating system
designed to address the needs of existing buildings.
Hotel Carlton
is a historic 161-room property located near Union Square and
the Theatre District. The hotel is non-smoking and pet
friendly, and features an eclectic international decor. Its
restaurant, Saha, offers Arabic fusion cuisine created with
organic ingredients whenever possible; a comprehensive food and
cooking oil composting program is also in place at the
restaurant.
To earn the
LEED-EB O&M Gold certification, Hotel Carlton had to
significantly reduce its environmental impacts in a number of
areas, including energy, water, and natural resource
conservation, air and water quality and more, and it must
maintain these practices and improve the building's
eco-efficiency over time.
There’s no
doubt it will. Joie de Vivre founder and CEO Chip Conley says
he’s totally committed to sustainable hospitality, and not just
at Hotel Carlton but throughout the entire brand.
"Joie de Vivre
embodies smart design, and smart design is also sustainable,"
said Conley. "Lessening our environmental impact reflects our
core values, which are about style with soul. We want our guests
to have a meaningful experience at our hotels, and Hotel Carlton
exemplifies that desire."
It certainly
does. So far, Hotel Carlton has earned these awards, accolades
and distinctions in addition to LEED-EB O&M Gold:
-
The first
solar powered hotel in San Francisco
-
Certified as
a San Francisco Green Business
-
Awarded a 4

We at
