USFI Green Meetings – A fresh approach to planning green
meetings
I read
an article
the other day that was pretty discouraging. Apparently, an
event planning website sent out a “mystery shopper” type request
for proposals to ten different luxury hotels around the world
with the goal of testing their response.
The brief
sought proposals for hosting 100 guests for a two day, one night
conference, banquet and gala dinner this coming January. In
addition to standard questions about rates, availability and
square footage of the meeting space, each hotel was asked to
detail its green policy, and to indicate how it works to
mitigate the environmental impact of the events it hosts.
Here’s the
kicker: of the ten properties surveyed, only one included
information about its environmental policies! The rest
either forgot to incorporate the information, or they simply
didn’t have any to report.
I’m sure you’ll
agree that this is a pitiful response.
How I wish
those other nine hotel’s event planners knew about
USFI Green

then they’d have no trouble answering the question of how they
lessen the environmental impact of their events!
