Fond Doux Estates Holiday Plantation – A 19^th Century St. Lucia Hotel with a 21^st Century Conscience

When we at EcoGreenHotel learned about and saw pictures of Fond Doux Estates Holiday Plantation, we were stopped in our tracks. Fond Doux is the kind of place dreams are made of.  Not only is it full of gorgeous Old World French colonial charm, but it is also environmentally sustainable.   

Check out these features and see if you don’t agree that Fond Doux is tres magnifique:

• Fond Doux is a 250-year old working cocoa farm established on lush tropical grounds on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia.  The farm uses all natural fertilizers and no harmful chemicals, and practices strict water conservation.  The cocoa, citrus and other produce grown there are all certified organic. 

• The hotel is located within minutes of the Pitons World Heritage site, which is protected by strict governance from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).   The Pitons are two volcanic peaks that rise dramatically above the historic coastal town of Soufriere.  Included in the site are sulphur springs, gardens and waterfalls.  Oprah Winfrey’s magazine “O” called it one of the top places to see in one’s lifetime.  

• With St. Lucia’s breadbasket as its backyard, Fond Doux provisions its two restaurants with the freshest local produce and seafood.  Even the pineapples and coconuts for your piña coladas are harvested locally!   Sustainability never tasted this good! 

•  For its energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, safe cleaning and eco-friendly purchasing practices, Fond Doux has earned green designation from several eco hotel certifying bodies, including IStayGreen.
